TFK Response: Kids Need More Sleep

In a recent article of Time For Kids, we read about how kids are not getting enough sleep. The article stated, "Experts say children ages 5 to 12 should get 10 to 11 hours of sleep each night. But according to the National Sleep Foundation, kids are only sleeping an average of nine and half hours a night."

Think about these questions:
Does the amount of sleep you get affect how well you perform in school? Does taking a test while you are tired make it harder to focus?
How does your mood changes when you are tired?
How does a lack of sleep affect your daily school-work?

Please answer this question with a short paragraph explaining your answer.
First, tell how many hours of sleep you get on average a night. Then, write about how your sleep affects your daily work and mood.

Sometimes it does and some times it doesn't. Usually I just take a cold shower and I'm wide awake. Mostly sleeping doesn't affect me. Coin L.

Yes. KIds need more sleep. If we can get more sleep we can get better grades. this makes us be able to do better in school.

I think kids need more sleep. Also I think electronics should be put out early before you get to into it and can’t go to sleep. For me I think it is harder to take tests and my eyes won‘t focus very well. I can’t pay attention. I usually go to bed around 9 o-clock and wake up at 8 o-clock and so I get eleven hours of sleep.

I get 8-9 hours of sleep.I think when kids don’t get enough sleep it does affect their school work because they don’t think about the work there doing in class because they're too tired. I think it will affect your whole life if you don’t get enough sleep because if you don’t do good in elementary school then you won’t do good in middle or high school or even college.

Sleep does affect my learning and how I do in school. The more sleep I get the better I do in school. Yes, the more tired I am it makes it harder to focus on tests. Yes, my mood changes when I am tired. I get grumpy and grouchy. The less tired I am the easier and the better I focus.

I think sleep does affect your school work. Your brain might not want to work and not think as well as it would if you got your normal hours of sleep. I get 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night. So then I'm ready for school the next day.

The average amount of sleep I get ba nihgt is 10 hours a night- 12 hours a night. How sleep affects my mood is if I don't get enough sleep each night I will not foucus right and just not work well and also be grouchy. If I take a test I will just be too tiered to do it.Duering school I will some times dose off into sleep. But most of the time that dose not happen because I get enough sleep.

I think that if kids from 5 to 12 years old dont get enough sleepy they'll be cranky. But if they do get alot of sleep they'll be better in school!

I think that kids need more sleep so that they are not weak. I also think that kids need more sleep so they can do the best they can in school. Kids should get more sleep so they can pay attention. I usually get 8 hours of sleep each night .

I think I might nead 30 minutes more of sleep, because sometimes I will be grumpy or won't pay attention in class. I do a lot better in class when I get more sleep. Each night I get around 9 hours of sleep.

Kids need more sleep so says the experts! Even though sleep normally doesn’t affect me I still try to get 9-11 hours of sleep each night. It is easy for me to focuses when I am rested. A lot of kids are tired I can tell, and it makes them so grumpy! My mood does not change! I don’t try my hardest on test when I am tired! I do well in school so it doesn’t affect my schoolwork. That is wath I think about sleep!

I think we should get more sleep because I get tired and sometimes my friends look tired. Another reason we should get more sleep is because my brain is not wanting to think. Every night I get 9 to 10 hours asleep.

The amount of sleep I get does affect my performance in Math because I don’t get enough sleep and I yawn in Math. It is not harder to focus on a test unless it’s a Math test. Sleep doesn’t affect my school work. On weekends I sleep in and get twelve and a half hours of sleep. On weekdays I go to bed two hours later and only get eight and a half hours of sleep.

I normally get around 8-9 hours of sleep every night. It really doesn't affect me, though. I'm the kind of person that just doesn't get affected by lack of sleep, but that sure dosn't mean I don't sleep in when I can.

Yes, kids need more sleep. Kids are getting nine to nine and half hours of sleep each night. When I'm tired I rest on my bed. Sometimes, I fall asleep. I get about ten to eleven hours of sleep each night. So those other kids need more sleep.

I get about 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. It only sffects me when I lay my head on my desk and I am not listneing in class. It dose not relly affect my mood except when I wake up. Then I am so grouchy and not fun to be around.

I think that a good night sleep affects your grades drastically so sometimes it can lower test scores. It affects me in a way that I get tired but I do not fall asleep and drool on my work. I say, I get about 8 to 9 hours of sleep but sometimes I just can't get enough sleep. You should get 9 to 10 hours of slumber each night. Experts say kids need to spend less time using electronics. That is a big sleep taker so that is why kids aren't getting enough sleep. So you need to get 9 hours a night at most to help your test scores go up.

I think we kids need more sleep (especially me) because most kids have drool all over there home work or school work. Here is a thing that happends to me if I only get 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. If I have a test I dose off for 1 minute or 2. This is certainly not good for my grades.
